Rumpy Pumpy
RUMPY PUMPY! – A FEMALE FULL MONTY
Rumpy Pumpy! is the remarkable true story of two genteel but intrepid ladies from the Hampshire Women’s Institute who take it upon themselves to champion the cause of Britain’s thousands of illegal brothels, campaigning for the legalisation of prostitution and better conditions for ‘working girls’.
Embarking on a worldwide tour which takes them from Portsmouth to Amsterdam, and on to Nevada in a quest to find the ‘best-practice’ brothel, our two intrepid ladies finally then find the perfect brothel they are looking for in New Zealand, whereupon they decide to head back home and set up their own mobile brothel on the streets of Winchester in an endeavour to change hearts and minds.
Rumpy Pumpy! has been inspired by the incredible story of Jean Johnson and Shirley Landels, two Hampshire Women’s Institute members who became the unlikely champions of Britain’s illegal brothels, campaigning to license them and bring about improved conditions for our country’s sex workers.
Set against the backdrop of recession Britain, chaos and comedy ensue when two very different worlds collide in this quintessentially British comedy, a glorious mix of unlikely characters bonding and forming a campaign to demonstrate for better conditions for working girls everywhere – a tale of courage, hope and optimism, warm-hearted and full of raw energy, its plea for social justice impassioned – a nugget of WI history, ripe with the eccentricities and enterprise that made Calendar Girls so engaging – A Fascinating Story.
